If you prefer to store your Bhatta and enjoy it over a period of 4-5 days

You need

  • 250 gm fresh puffed rice
  • 100 gm roasted peanuts
  • 1 tbsp kale tikhat masala (made by frying dry red chili and Maharastrian kala/goda masala in 1:1 proportion and grinding to a paste)
  • 2 tbsp refined oil (preferably peanut oil)
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ tbsp cumin powder
  • ½ tbsp coriander powder
  • ¼ tbsp powdered sugar
  • ½ tbsp red chili powder (for a spicier flavor, optional)

How to make

  1. Sieve the puffed rice properly. Add the roasted peanuts to it.
  2. Take 2 tbsp oil in a bowl. Add in the kale tikhat masala, a pinch of salt, powdered sugar, cumin powder, coriander powder and red chili powder if you want a super spicy flavor. Mix to a uniform consistency.
  3. Add this mixture to the puffed rice mixture and mix well using your hands.
  4. This bhatta can be stored up to 4-5 days at room temperature and enjoyed at leisure.

Pro Tip

  • Try to use a mortar and pestle instead of a mixer to crush the garlic cloves for better flavor.
  • Mix the Bhatta with your hands instead of a spoon to ensure thorough mixing and better taste.
  • If you are using the recipe to store your Bhatta over 4-5 days, add the ingredients like onion, garlic, coriander, etc. just before serving as they can otherwise moisten the puffed rice.
